I just recently finished this course a couple of weeks ago. When I saw an article about a bill being introduced to debate registering women for the draft, I thought about Professor Jewell’s lecture mentioning Phyllis Schlafly opposing the ERA because it would lead to women being required to fill combat roles and register for the draft.

In my opinion, she was right in her prediction about this. As more equal rights have been legislated by force, it’s given an excuse to enslave women to register for the draft. Unfortunately, no real debate is being had as to whether or not anyone should be forced to register…

She could read plain English: a ban on sex discrimination could and, in light of intellectuals’ tendency at the time, obviously would mean conscription of women.
